It arrives at the workshop with a decorative piece of ivory missing, broken glass and the base of the pictorial motif, inactive xylophagus holes and damaged varnish. The mirror has been dismantled, given preventive treatment against xylophages, glued the base of the pictorial motif, cleaned the floral gilding, plastered the openings of the base wood, cleaned damaged varnish, plastered the holes of the corks, redone the decorative piece of ivory using it from an old broken Japanese cap, cut and replaced broken glass, varnished with shellac "la francesa" and finished with wax.
"Trumeau" is a type of mirror that became fashionable in France during the 17th c, Divided into two parts, they have a decoration on the top of the mirror. Depending on the period, the decoration could be gilded, bas-relief, marquetry, a pictorial motif, etc. They were made in various sizes, so large to be placed on fireplaces and so small to be placed on chests of drawers, dressing tables, etc.
